Legal Compliance

All firework activities in Malaysia are strictly governed by the Explosives Act 1957 and the Explosives Rules 1923. The possession, sale, or use of non-permitted explosives is deemed a serious criminal offense punishable by strict legal action.

Under Section 8 of the Explosives Act, offenders found liable can face imprisonment of up to 7 years, a fine of RM10,000, or both. It is the utmost responsibility of every consumer to verify that they are purchasing only from licensed dealers who display a valid permit issued by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and the Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN).

Permitted Fireworks

The Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN) has authorized a distinct selection of low-hazard fireworks for public recreational use, specifically during festive seasons. These are classified primarily under the "Happy Boom" and "Pop-Pop" categories.

  • Happy Boom Series: Includes ground-based recreational items such as Glow of Sunset, Flower Silver, and Peacock fountains.
  • Pop-Pop: Standard impact snaps strictly for ground use.
  • Sparklers: Hand-held golden sparklers approved for controlled usage.

Authentication Warning: Consumers must ensure every package bears the official holographic security label and the importer's registration details.

Safety Guidelines

To ensure the well-being of the community and prevent preventable injuries, strict adherence to the following safety protocols is mandatory:

  • Designated Safety Zones: Ignition must only occur in wide, open spaces (e.g., cleared driveways) at least 20-25 feet away from vehicles, flammable materials, residential structures, and spectators.
  • Adult Supervision: Minors under the age of 18 must be supervised by a responsible adult at all times. Never allow young children to handle ignition sources.
  • Ignition Protocol: Light only one firework at a time. Once lit, retreat immediately to a safe distance. Never lean over a firework while lighting.
  • Dud Protocol: Never attempt to relight a "dud" firework that failed to ignite. Wait 20 minutes, then soak it in water.
  • Emergency Prep: Always keep a bucket of water or a charged garden hose readily accessible for emergency extinction.

Prohibited Acts

The following actions are strictly prohibited by law and constitute dangerous criminal behavior:

🚫 Curfew Violation Firing fireworks past 12:00 AM (Midnight) is prohibited to prevent public nuisance and disturbance.
🚫 Dangerous Modification Altering, taping together, or modifying fireworks to increase explosive power is illegal and lethal.
🚫 Reckless Endangerment Pointing, throwing, or launching fireworks towards people, animals, vehicles, or buildings is a criminal act.

Emergency

In the event of an accident, fire, or injury, immediate action is critical:

  1. Treating Burns: Immediately run cool (not cold) tap water over the affected area for at least 20 minutes. Do not apply ice, butter, or oil. Cover with a clean cloth and seek medical aid.
  2. Eye Injuries: Do not rub or rinse the eye. Protect it with a cup or shield and go to the emergency room immediately.
  3. Uncontrolled Fire: If a fire spreads to property/vegetation, evacuate immediately and dial 999 for the Fire & Rescue Department (Bomba).
  4. Reporting: Report illegal firework sales or dangerous nuisances to the nearest police station or via the "MyBomba" app.
